  1.     Copyright rules for GN utilities and sources

  3. 1. General
  4. ===========
  5.   C copyright of all GN utilities, modules, program sources 
  6.     is kept by Guenter Nagler, all rights reserved
  7.   * the author does not guarantee that the programs are free of errors and
  8.     is not responsible for damages that are caused by using the programs,
  9.     user should not use them if (s)he isn't aware about this.
  10.     See also disclaimer in .doc file of each software package.
  11.   * don't use any GN utility for illegal purpose.
  12.   * it is not allowed to debug GN software (cracking, hacking, 
  13.     reverse engineering)

  15. 2. Rules using free GN utilities
  16. ================================
  17.   * These utilities are free for private and educational non-commercial use
  18.     only
  19.   * It is not allowed to sell the programs or bundle them with commercial 
  20.     or shareware products or shareware/freeware cdrom (see distribution rules)
  21.   * It is not allowed to distribute modified programs or single files from  
  22.     a compressed package
  23.   * For commercial use or use in shareware products need permission 
  24.     (see distribution rules)
  25.   * Calling software utilities from selfmade software requires permission 
  26.     if the selfmade software is distributed.
  27.   * Send new ideas, bug reports directly to author by email. The
  28.     author decides self which ideas are implemented or what is a bug
  29.     and a feature.

  31. 2. Rules for Shareware GN utilities
  32. ===================================
  33.   * Shareware utilities are not free, if you want to use the utility then
  34.     must register the shareware product and pay the current registration 
  35.     price. 
  36.   * Shareware demo .zip are free for testing the software for limited time.
  37.     GNMIDI, GNMIDFMT, GNKnow trial use are limited to 5 days,
  38.     GNIStyle trial version is not time limited.
  39.   * It is not allowed to use the trial versions as full versions by 
  40.     knocking them up (cracking), this would be stealing.
  41.   * It is not allowed to use (stolen) registration keys from others or 
  42.     create own registration keys (hacking), such illegal keys are 
  43.     not valid, this would be stealing.
  44.   * After you tried the demo version with all its limits you decide if 
  45.     you want register this shareware. 
  46.   * If you want register then read readme.txt/liesmich.txt and 
  47.     choose one of the payment methods. For direct payments to author
  48.     you need to fill a registration form and send it with the payment to the
  49.     author. For payments through a credit card registration service like 
  50.     RegSoft.com, you need to fill the order form of the company correctly.
  51.     Currently only RegSoft.com is legitimized to sell GN Shareware licenses.
  52.   * For registering we need your full international postal address and 
  53.     real name, optional email address. Without them no working license file 
  54.     can be created.
  55.   * If you don't want to register then you must delete all installations 
  56.     of the shareware. You can try a future upgrade to check if you like 
  57.     this one more.
  58.   * Price can change so download newest demo to get current registration 
  59.     conditions or ask the author by email.
  60.   * The original (unmodified) demo .zip can be distributed by any media.
  61.   * It is not allowed to distribute a registration license.
  62.   * It is not allowed to modify the demo .zip file, nor to include or remove
  63.     files.
  64.   * Support will only be given to registered users by email.
  65.   * license keys could change at new versions, legally registered users can 
  66.     get a new key from author, keep old key in case that want use an old
  67.     version again.
  68.   * Bug reports and questions can be asked directly to author by email.
  69.   * if a registered user violate against license conditions 
  70.     (e.g. distribute key) then copyright laws of Austria apply to 
  71.     judge the copyright violation. The users registration license will
  72.     stop automatically, this user is then not allowed to use shareware key 
  73.     and upgrades.
  74.   * GNMIDI legally registered users can use GNMIDFMT too.
  75.   * Legally registered users have permission to use the resulting MIDI files
  76.     of the free DOS utilities for commercial use.
  77.   * GNMIDI legally registered users have permission to use the resulting MIDI
  78.     files for commercial use.
  79.   * User is responsible to care about the copyright rules of existing MIDI 
  80.     files (e.g. musical notes, lyrics, professional made MIDI songs),
  81.     modifying an existing MIDI song with GN shareware software does not 
  82.     change the copyright rules of the MIDI song. Even if modifying copyright 
  83.     info in a MIDI file with GN software the MIDI file remains copyright of
  84.     the original owners (author, composer, sequencer, company ...).
  85.     Author is not responsible for users violating MIDI or songs copyright laws.

  87. 3.  Rules for use of C++ program sources
  88. ========================================
  89.   * Source codes to most free DOS GN utilities can be licensed, also midiio source 
  90.     library for reading/writing/copying/modifying/analysing MIDI files.
  91.   * midiio source codes are required to compile most MIDI utilities.
  92.   * It is not allowed to redistribute or resell the sources.
  93.   * Sources are not available for any Open Source projects.
  94.   * For any distribution of software or for any commercial or shareware use 
  95.     of software  that uses GN modules you need to ask for permission (see 
  96.     distribution rules).

  98. 4. Distribution Rules 
  99. ============================
  100.   * Distribution of Shareware demo .zip is allowed, it is not allowed to
  101.     get paid for distribition. Distribution of Shareware registration 
  102.     keys is prohibited.
  103.   * Free for private noncommercial use utilities can be distributed, only
  104.     .zip files that are not modified. It is not allowed to get paid for 
  105.     distribution or bundle it with any commercial or shareware or freeware 
  106.     product (e.g. software, cdrom, book, magazine...), you need permission
  107.     for bundle any software.
  108.   * To use any of the free or shareware GN midi utilities to generate 
  109.     commercial midi files (e.g. produce and sell midi files, midi files 
  110.     for use by a company - advertisement or presentation or company 
  111.     homepage) GNMIDI Shareware must be registered.
  112.   * For using utilities or sources in projects that are distributed 
  113.     you need permission from author. Tell your project plans and which 
  114.     GN utilities or sources are wanted to be used in project.
  115.   * Author can give or deny permission to use utilities or sources in a 
  116.     project, or limit permission for certain use inside a project. 
  117.     Especially if project is competition against any GN utility or plan
  118.     permission might be denied or limitted.
  119.   * If you find utilities or sources to be useful in combination with your 
  120.     project (that you want to distribute) then ask for permission and 
  121.     conditions for including certain GN material into project,
  122.     before starting with the project, because permission to distribute the 
  123.     project with GN material is not guaranteed.
  124.     
  125. 5. To simplify the rules to few sentences:
  126.     * for any distribution that have to do with GN software,
  127.       you need to ask author for permission
  128.     * if you make a profit using GN software then share a 
  129.       participation on profit with GN author
  130.     * register GN shareware if you like it or delete it after trial use
  131.     * register GN shareware if you use free GN utilities for creating 
  132.       commercial midi files.
